The headquarters of anamed Province Orientale is in Adi. Mr Akuma Tande is the Coordinator, and he is also a surgeon and the “in-charge” of Adi Hospital, a hospital with 200 beds that serves not only the north-east of Congo but patients also from Sudan and Uganda.

Akuma and his colleagues have integrated Natural Medicine into the treatments offered in the hospital. As a result, they are able to offer a bigger range of effective treatments -sometimes natural remedies work where conventional remedies fail. They are also able to generate income for the hospital - an enormous benefit in a region where health care in general is poorly resourced.

Akuma, together with his colleagues Flory Lechabo and Agele Obiasa, have also established centres of anamed activities, where there are medicinal gardens and local leaders who run their own training seminars, in Abedju Agura Aru Bongilo Laybo Ombayi Sigoli and Ugonzo.

Brief report of activities in 2007
written by Mr Akuma:

“A part l’Hôpital, les demandes toujours croissantes des écoles, des églises, des guérisseurs ainsi que les autres domaines nous montrent que chacun trouve l’intérêt personnel dans la connaissance de l’Anamed pour lui, sa famille ainsi que son entourage.

C’est sur une demande pressante de la population que nous avons décidé de faire une traduction de petit livre en Bangala, la langue la plus parlée dans le milieu afin que tout le monde y trouve sa place.

A plus, des 6 séminaires soutenus dans son organisation, nous avions tenu quelques conférences, des exposés et aussi sur demande de l’Inspecteur Médical de District, nous avons accepté enseigner dans les instituts techniques Médical le cours d’Anamed

Vu la nécessité, nous avons selectiooné à notre manière et avons conçu un petit manuel comme «  aide mémoire » dont la copie est aussi présentée ici en attachement.

Quant au personnel d’Anamed Adi, nous avons Mr Akuma Tande (Coordonnateur et Formateur), assisté à Adi par le Réverend Pasteur Agele Obiasa et l’Infirmier Lechabo Mokunga ; à Laybo par le Pasteur Atia Cyprien et Baguma Innocent.

Nous avons eux gardiniers qui sont supportés par l’Anamed International et recrutons régulièrement les journaliers quand le besoin se fait sentir. Nous avons notre jardin qui se trouve à l’entrée de l’Hôpital et qui attire l’attention de tous nos malades et leurs gardes. Raison pour la quelle, nous sommes souvent priés à faire visiter les gens régulièrement et toujours avec des explications.

PRODUCTION MEDICAMENT ANAMED (2007)

L’Hôpital comme le premier bénificiaire de l’enseignement reçu par l’Anamed International produit et consomme régulièrement les médicaments essentiels. Depuis janvier jusqu’à ce jour :

Pommade anti rhumatismale : 1400

Sirop anti toux : 2015

Pommade antimycosiques : 1511

Pommade anti hemorroïde : 1551.

Nous avons traités plus de 700 persommes avec A3, plus de 200 cas de diarrhée, 52 enfants avec la malnutrition et avons conseillé plus de 150 personnes vivant avec le virus VIH/sida d’utiliser le moringa combiné avec l’artémisia, l’aloe.

English:

“We are asked to run training not only in hospitals but increasingly also in schools, churches and for healers, even from other districts. Because of this enormous demand, we have decided to produce a small book in Lingala, the language most commonly spoken in our region.

We have conducted 6 seminars that have been supported by anamed international, and in addition we have given many talks and led many discussions. We were asked by the District Medical Inspector if we would be prepared to introduce our work in the Medical Training School, and have agreed to do so.

We have established our medicinal garden at the entrance to the hospital. Both health workers and patients show great interest in it, and often ask us to show them around. We are grateful to anamed international for enabling us to employ two gardeners.

During 2007 we have produced 1400 containers of chilli ointment, 2015 bottles of cough medicine, 2015 containers of ointment for fungal infections, 1500 containers of haemorrhoid ointment. We have treated 700 people with artemisia tea, more than 200 cases of diarrhoea, 52 undernourished children, and we have advised more than 150 people living with AIDS to take artemisia tea, aloe and moringa.”
